4th & grande vista, SE side
in front of tepa barber shop

nothing on spit when i visited. only meats were on griddle. did not bother to taste. very weird stand. not sure what they were doing that nite.

3400 E. 1st st
Los Angeles, CA
(address not exact)
al pastor shaved off spit, not griddled, no pina, but there’s seating. next to a joint called “del valle” next to bufadora bar/pool hall. i was seriously stuffed after 5 tacos that nite, must return and visit.

based on Javier J’s rec:
3408 Dozier St
Los Angeles, CA

Dozier and Gage, NE corner: walked away. not enough prep on this day, the throngs were impatient and the spit-master sucummed to shaving, then griddling the al pastor. Just say no to griddled al pastor.

2811 E. Cesar Chavez
Los Angeles, CA
in front of Jack’s Market. unfriendly patrons, cooks wouldn’t let me take pix. had 2 al pastors. wknd only, condiment bar a bit lacking, not very crisped ends, but flavor quite decent. still no pina. i dunno why LA hates pina so. hell, I have 5 Hawaiian Gold Pineapples sitting in my refrigerator. Mebbe a pineapple donation is in order?

3530 Whittier Blvd
Really nice folks, grizzly al pastor but very nice tripas. $1 each and of course, no piña. The tripas, is just fluffy and hot, and just a bit crunchy.

La Reyna
7th and Mateo (not QUITE East LA but… really darn close)

the finest of what i’d like to call the ghetto LA-style al pastor, think ghetto-dog, topped with grilled onions and stewed jalapenos, plethora of salsas & guac.

Hicks & Cezar Chavez
Los Angeles, CA
SW Corner

The current granddaddy of ‘em all & the best compromise – not too many people, fiery propane spit that cooks quickly, just enough tasty charred bits on the sliced pork, piña available upon request (tho they are dang stingy)

And yes, I have pix of these somewhere.. If I don’t, I’ll be sure to stop by (heck! mebbe even tonite!) since we’re possibly moving to a house 3 blocks away.
