On Sunday December 21st, 15 people invaded Providence for a late nite assault on what some considers to be the finest desserts in all of LA. The end result: 6 cameras, 2 hours of dessert gorging, 2 3 neutral posts from bloggers (including myself), 9 courses, 1 attendee who had to quit Yelp after she received flame mail for her negative Providence reviews.

All I can say is.. WOW. Y’all rock. Providence? Thank you for the effort, it was my pleasure shaking Chef Vasquez’s hand (he usually doesn’t work on Sundays); Mr. John Parker of Providence Special Events: I’m sorry I was such a CHEAP BASTARD by not booking the whole back room at a minimum exspenditure of $65 per person, nor reserving the reservation with a $300 deposit.

Otherwise, I have no comment on the desserts. Had a GREAT fun sitting across a cute new couple (Kevin/Jenni *waves*), all of us attended something that’ll never happen again in the history of the restaurant (Chef Cimarusti himself called and advised this has NOT happened before), I’ve now finally tasted EVERYTHING from the 2 of the 3 restauranteurs featured in the banner picture of my site.

Food Destination’s post here.

[...] has a comprehensive dessert program, but tasting the entire menu would be quite cost prohibitive. We did the Providence dessert tasting late last year with all these fine folks, and it was time to sample some tailored desserts [...]

So would you recommend the dessert tasting? It didn’t seem like you were too keen on it. I’ve been to Providence a few times, and have always thought about doing it.

yes mistress Ronnie. It’s meant to be. I’d just finished, it’s due to publish at 1am..

Kevin, I think the consensus remains the whole ordeal was underwhelming. By the 5th course, the flavors, due to their similar nature, were welding together as one… texturally, too much cream/ice cream/mousse near the end did not help either.

Ha! I just posted on my Providence dessert tasting experience too — and to @KevinEats, for now I agree that I’m not particularly keen on the dessert tasting. Like Tony indicated, there was just too much similarity and their attempts to modernize traditional sweets didn’t necessarily work. I’d much rather stick with ordering them a la carte or for the ones to come at the end of a tasting menu.

Ah, so you posted the pictures after all Tony. I like the lollipop picture, nice lighting. Thanks again for putting all this together. You would think that since this hasn’t happened before that they would be more accomodating with unique desserts. When FoodDigger asked Ben Ford about hosting the pork confit dinner, he was much more obliging. Restaurants need to be aware of who their customers are nowadays. Also, someone left Yelp for bad Prov D reviews?
