Hopefully Worldfare won’t fizzle out so quickly after only 2 hits ala Perry. At least unlike Britney, I’m probably not going to do it (chase trucks) again.

Worldfare Bus Worldfare Braised Short Rib Bunny

It was a chilly fun late evening stuffed with pulled braised short rib and meatball sliders (which were served as purposefully shaped tall brioche balls with flat bottoms and somewhat hollowed innards). People stood on top of the bus, pulled from a San Diego touring company unfortunately downsized by the economy; some chowed, some pointed, some went: “oooo shiiiet! Did you see that!” when they saw the LAPD put the smack down on some revelers at the corner of Cahuega/Hollywood. Even the Guardian Angels showed up.

The chef and crew were looking nervously alive on Saturday, waiting for patrons to visit so they may make a good impression. To finish off the evening, Co-owner/bustauranteur Travis Schmidt delivered a piping hot butterscotch bread pudding and said chef Jason Travi (of Fraiche/Riva/Fraiche episode) proclaimed this best bread pudding he’s ever had.

To reiterate how good that dessert was, even served in a cardboard box, see picture of intense focus on bread pudding:

There is talk of serving items being served on bell peppers of various colors, there is talk of opening an espresso cum dessert bar in an un-utilized section of the rolling giant, there is talk of “underground” (or is that.. above ground?) dinners being served on the top deck, there is talk of top deck concerts. Mostly, there is talk of the extremely photogenic chef (Andi Van Willigan) turning out more thoughtful food in this sea of mobile mediocrity.

    cum
    [kʌm]
    prep
used between two nouns to designate an object of a combined nature a kitchen-cum-dining room
[Latin: with, together with, along with]

  • I can almost see you running after this truck? PS. What kind of camera do you have?

This bus looks interesting. Still not into this nouveau food vehicles fad though. Haven’t been to a single one yet, not even Kogi.

Haha, I know what “cum” means, but like bagnatic, I flinch when I see that word too. We use it as an abbreviation for “cumulative” at work sometimes and even then I giggle like Beavis & Butthead. Yeah, I know. I’m immature.

Bananas: this post is the first post shot with a Canon 5d. Recently, the pix were with a Canon S90, before that, Rebel XT.

DG/R&C: I generally really dislike fusion/nouveau trucks, but this bus… it’s damn cool, and backed by an honest-to-goodness chef. Btw, it’s ok to like cum.

  • Bread pudding from a truck? Maybe that IS a truck worth chasing… once Lent is over and I’ve reacquired my taste for desserts again.

  • Lol, love the concentration. You’re a true foodie through and through. Or maybe it’s just the great taste of the bread pudding. I’ve never heard of this truck before. I’ll have to chase one down myself.

  • Good post! I was wondering if it would be worth checking out!

I love that you called Whole Foods, “Whole Paycheck”. I agree, what a waste. I only buy one thing there and that’s Nutritional Yeast, it’s cheap, and only “Whole Paycheck” has it.
