Domies Bakery

Domie is a Hong Kong Bakery known for small cakes, etc. Its popular enough to have a 4square check-in. While there is no indication the Rosemead original is of any relations, it does produce out some of the cheapest Asian style (fluffy, no frosting, no icing) cakes in all of San Gabriel Valley. A quarter sheet of strawberry cake at Domies Bakery is about $23, half sheet at $50, 6″ cakes can be had for $12 or so. Maxim Bakery in Alhambra may sport affordable cakes with a bit more elegance, but only Domies has knarly baked bun creations.

Witness: sweet butter bun with stuffed mochi.

The stuffing inside is similar to the Taiwanese brick toast topping, but mid bun, there’s a ball of sweet glutinous rice ball. Random. The construction goes something like: carby sweet rice surrounded by sweet buttery surrounded by sweet bread.

Then there’s egg wrapped shredded pork in mayo bun

When mangoes are in season, there are perfectly paired mango and strawberry cakes starting at $14 for 6″. Each of the above baked buns is $1.25, no discount for multiple purchases, but this is already much cheaper than all of Koreatown.

You can be on Atkins, but that mochi-stuffed bun would still be a fun anomaly to taste. Also, call Domies to save a fresh loaf in the morning to save a fresh loaf of toast in the morning and they will slice it super thick for the Taiwanese brick toast. Reminder: this is cash only, no sit-down.

Gasp! Mayo buno? Is it really made out of the white stuff? I love chinese pastries. I love chinese cakes too, they are perfectly fluffy and not too sweet. I want one for my wedding (when I find the guy). Waiting (impatiently) for mango season to begin.

haha, we know you love all things Chinese. I’d rock a Chinese wedding cake to save about 75% off of say Porto’s. And it’s not actually a “may bun”. It’s just a bun stuffed with mayo, which, IMO, is just as good.

You can get these what I call ‘flossy pork buns’ all over Bangkok but just not my thing. Don’t think pork is supposed to be mixed with a whole bunch of sugar. Yuk. But…of course, every year at Christmas, I can guarantee at least 10 of my Thai friends will give me bags of flossy pork crackers. Grrrrr.

Advantageously, the article is really the best on this notable topic. I harmonise with your conclusions and will thirstily look forward to your approaching updates. Saying thanks will not just be adequate, for the tremendous clarity in your writing. I will directly grab your rss feed to stay privy of any updates. Authentic work and much success in your business enterprise! The recipe itself calls for a number of different ingredients, but there’s nothing too complex about it.
