Grubstreet learned 20 things last weekend.
It’s hard to imagine a magazine’s blog outsmarting a local hipster alt-weekly, but them’s the breaks.
===========================
It’s only late August, which means it is still food festival gorge fest season here in Los Angeles. After the recent LA Food Wine (from which the story of Huge Tree Pastry’s booth shall still be told), LA Times The Taste is next. I vaguely remember being there — it was hellaciously hot, and the event was mostly tented — so here are some more useful recaps from last year:
In video format:
Thankfully, LA Times also has its own highlight reel:
There are 2 night events during The Taste which should be highlighted for culinary gravitas and drunken tomfoolery: “Cocktail Confidential” and the rather mundane sounding “Dinner & Drinks”. Out of the 2, “Dinner & Drinks” is currently featuring 33 restaurants, while “Cocktail Confidential” features 31. Conversely, “Cocktail Confidential” is carrying 2 more alcohol vendors. Foodwise, “Dinner & Drinks” is featuring Stella Rossa, Oliverio and Whist, 3 strong food festival veterans known for their previous small bites. And for the first time, City Tavern will pair up with Eagle Rock Brewery to offer a a guided food/beer pairing.
Which is better? I don’t know. But starting today, LA Times just released a coupon code good for 20% off either event: beercrawl . This is meant for those who “are being lazy and not getting things together.” Like your grandaddy always said, patience is a virtue. Now everyone can get their drunk on for $50! Just remember: people can tell if you’ve popped that 100mg of Viagra (to counter beer dick, of course), so prepare wisely.
