SGV Repped at LAFW “Asian Night Market”
Today starts the second annual LA Food and Wine festival, which is our little version of the Pebble Beach Food and Wine. This year is the first year of a “downmarket” event meant for the Friday night partying Asians masses. There are a few reasons why this Asian Night Market soiree is culinarily more interesting than any event at Pebble Beach:
1. Hot Red Bus of Alhambra is debuting the menu to their soon-to-open restaurant at LAFW.
2. Fluff Ice is the only bonafide Chinese dessert booth in the history of Food and Wine festivals
3. Huge Tree Pastry is the only Taiwanese restaurant to be EVER featured in the history of Food and Wine.
Hot Red Bus is the v2.0 effort by the kitchen of Ma Jasmins which started its British Indian grub a year ago at Alhambra Farmers Market. These folks live, eat and serve the San Gabriel Valley. Thank you for allowing the neighborhood to have options beyond pho, ramen and beef noodle soup.
Chef Lee Hefner is a culinary giant in LA, but you know your want to see the diminutive Mrs. Liu at a downtown Los Angeles food fest.
Fluff Ice is a neighborhood dream team. The founders grew up together in the San Gabriel Valley, came back to the region after schooling, and founded their business in the heart of SGV (Monterey Park Time Square). Go try their rendition of Taiwanese’s favorite dessert: shaved snow. They will be debuting a new flavor at the event.
Added bonus, Takoyaki Tanota (based out of Gardena & Little Tokyo) is bringing its Osaka-style takoyaki grill to LAFW. They’re also part of the SGV now that they’re at the Monterey Park Farmers Market every Friday. Will you ever again eat non-fusion, Japanese-cooked Japanese snacks at a red carpeted American food festival while drowning yourself in bottomless wine? Let us hope so.
Asian Night Market

NB: Yes, it’s sold out, but tickets still available on good old Craigslist.
