<p>Bacaro was our first cichetti after returning from Italy last year. And now they&#8217;re gonna feed you til you drop. Not the best way to celebrate only 1 year of staying open in a very tough neighborhood, but hey, Santos loves us all? </p>
<blockquote><p><b>On Saturday, April 18th from 6pm &#8211; 11pm Bacaro LA will be celebrating their one year anniversary with an open BAR &#038; passed hors d&#8217;oeuvres all night long for only $15 per person. No reservations for this event.</b></p></blockquote>

<p>Chef Lior Hillel has provided Bacaro will a huge infusion of food spirit since joining in September &#8216;08, so this has to be a guaranteed good time! And at $15, it&#8217;s really hard to go wrong..</p>

Apparently all fun, free, cheap festivities were long over on this Superbowl Sunday as <a href="http://laeastside.com/2009/02/el-gallo-bakery-60th-anniversary-celebration/#comments">Blogger LA Eastside reported multitude of fun</a> &#8211; including free margherita &#8211; that started early in the morning. </p>
<p>A brief history of El Gallo:</p>
<blockquote><p>El Gallo Bakery was opened in 1949 by Magdalena Martinez-Huerta and her brother Lauro. They were following in their father&#8217;s entrepreneurial footsteps. He had owned bakeries in Mexico since the early 1920&#8217;s.</p>
<p>Creating the &#8220;Best Traditional Panes Dulces in the USA&#8221; was a challenge for Magdalena, because she wanted authentic-tasting baked goods, just like those made in her father&#8217;s bakeries in Mexico but she had to use American ingredients. So over a period of time, she developed and refined her recipes, using expensive high-gluten flour for better taste and texture.</p>
<p>Jesus Huerta, now runs El Gallo Bakery bringing it into the 21st century with resurfaced, stainless steel walls; new rotating, 48-pan ovens; a huge walk-in refrigerator and other modern equipment.</p></blockquote>
<p>By the time I arrived, flyers touting the celebration ended in 5pm were strewn all over the floor. Despondent, a quick exploration of the &#8220;Cafe&#8221; premises ensued during which the video of the mariachi band above was shot. Fun place! Apparently it was a mortuary only 3 years ago! WTF?!? Creepy! Across Caesar Chavez, there was still a line inside the &#8220;Bakery&#8221; itself. Being a non-fan of pan dolce, a caramel flan was ferried home for a post-din din party in my mouth:<P><P><br />
